Columns: See Also: Columns Case Studies
High-bay columns are a particularly suitable application, where the increased inertia
of a cellular beam is required for the large defl ections in the tall columns. In
lower height columns the decision to use cellular columns is more likely to be driven
by aesthetics than economy compared to plain universal beams.
The initial reason to use any form of tapered column is likely to be one of aesthetics.
However, once it is decided that a tapered column is appropriate, a cellular taper
will be the most economical solution.
